This post is sentimental and reflects on someone who has made a difference in people’s lives. Roc4Tim event happens December 3rd at 2pm in the Anthology venue of Rochester, NY. This mixtape compiles some tracks from performers at Roc4Time coming up.
This post is kinda hard to write. I’ve been a part of the Rochester local music scene for two years now, and the scene has grown and grown to become a staple of Rochester’s city life. The reason the scene has become such a well-respected part of the city is due largely to Tim Avery, the city’s biggest music booker and scheduler. Tim Avery was the first one to help get Joywave and Multibird off the ground. Avery provided housing and beer for traveling bands, making sure that bands enjoyed their stay. Daniel Armbruster, of Joywave fame, and Mikaela Davis both have spoken about how without Avery, their careers would never have become as successful.
Earlier this year, to many people’s surprise, Avery was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. He is only 35 years old and as lead a life of sacrifice in our community. The city is paying back Avery for his sacrifices by putting on a benefit show on December 3rd. 15 bands, 5 DJs, and 10 hours (2pm – 12am). Bands like Joywave, Kopps, Mikaela Davis, King Buffalo, Green Dreams and more will appear to pay tribute. All proceeds will go directly to Avery’s cancer treatment.
