On the Beach – Nora En Pure

by Alexander Punj

Nora En Pure is a South African-born, Zurich-based deep house and indie dance moniker of Daniela Niederer. Nora has been getting quite the attention in the deep house community over her track Come With Me, one that accentuates the driving synth bass line and smooth vocals. Her latest track, On the Beach, is a remake of Chris Rea’s track from the 80’s, and it’s sweeter than ever.

Nora comes out of the Helvetic Nerds gang, a group of Swiss-based producers making big bass house music. The likes of Dinka, EDX, Daniel Portman and others all lean on smooth synths and wonky beats to make a “pure” style of house, and this has led party-heads (like me, I confess) to view EDM as not just dance music, but as a day-to-day, listenable media. Nora helps listeners envision that electronic music is transforming, and isn’t as monotone as people initially thought in the 90’s.
